Alpa Mistry, a woven textile designer, produces exclusive accessories for fashion and bold interior artworks. Her work is defined by an imaginative, distinctive use of colour, balance and proportion of line. The rich colours derived from her Indian background, as well as the different textures and layers found in nature and landscapes inspire Alpa’s exquisite hand crafted textiles.
Each piece is individually designed and hand-woven on a 24 shaft George Wood dobby loom. The colours are translated into hand-dyed silks and then finely woven in sateen and plain weaves, creating textile pieces with contrasts of sheer and solid fields of colour. Simple and serene to fun and quirky, Alpa’s work is also characterised by her use of contrasting textures, often mixing diaphanous silks with different weighted wools, linens, mohair and cashmere.
Since setting up her own label, Alpa has attracted attention from a number of outlets and galleries across the country with her designs. Pieces in her range include scarves, shawls, cushions and hangings.
Many of Alpa’s designs are one-off pieces. To view please contact Alpa to make an appointment to visit her at her studio.
